World Tourism Day

The World Tourism Day is celebrated by the world on 27th September each year to foster awareness among the international community of the importance of tourism and its social, cultural, political and economic values. As the official day is set aside in the United Nation’s events calendar, the celebration seeks to highlight the tourism potential to contribute to Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), and address some of the most pressing challenges facing the world today.

Since its foundation in 2000, SCTH undertook rehabilitation and development of tourism and national heritage sectors in the Kingdom as well as involve citizens in the tourism operation by raising social awareness and community education on the importance of development of tourism, development and rehabilitation of heritage sites and tourist destinations, as well as implementation of tourism programs and activities to achieve a sustainable development.

The film “Transformation … new life for Saudi urban heritage” was produced by SCTH, and recently it was selected within the list of global films participating in the World Tourism Day celebrations.  The film depicts a number of heritage sites in the Kingdom, and sheds light on the Saudi urban heritage and its architectural and historical features, which reflect the cultural dimension of the Kingdom and its economic and cultural importance.
