The Kingdom Participates in the Splendor of Asia Exhibition in China 

The Kingdom of Saudi Arabia, represented by the Saudi Commission for Tourism and National Heritage, is taking part in an international cultural exhibition at the National Museum of China in the capital Beijing during the period between May 10 and August 10, 2019 under the motto: “The Splendor of Asia - An Exhibition of Asian Civilizations”.

The commission, in its pavilion, showcased archaeological pieces that have been chosen from various regions of the Kingdom and cover pre-history eras, pre-Islamic old ages and the Islamic era, where 13 pieces have been chosen to participate in the exhibition, two of them date back to Al-Magar civilisation (modern stone age that dates back to 8810 years ago). Among the most prominent pieces was an abstract statue for a human being of limestone that dates back to 4,000 year B. C., which was found in Tabouk Region, in addition to several pieces of statues, and pottery and glass pots.  

This participation is part of implementing the items of the joint cooperation between the Kingdom, represented by the Saudi Commission for Tourism and National Heritage, and the People’s Republic of China, represented by the cultural heritage administration of China, where the commission participated upon the request of the Chinese side.   

The commission’s participation in such international events aims at spreading the culture of concern in history and antiquities and highlighting their role in promoting the Kingdom and stressing the importance of linking the civil development of the Kingdom with heritage and historical pillars that find the care and concern of the wise leadership. 

The commission’s participation in the exhibition is a continuation of the joint cooperation in the antiquities sector between the Kingdom and the People’s Republic of China, where the commission has previously organised the “Roads of Arabia Masterpieces of Antiquities in Saudi Arabia Across the Ages” Exhibition, which was hosted by the National Museum of China in Beijing in Rabi I, 1438 H (corresponding to December, 2016) for three hours, where the Saudi Commission for Tourism and National Heritage also hosted the Treasures of China Exhibition which was held at the National Museum in Riyadh between Muharram 2, 1439 H and Rabi I 15, 1440 H.
